Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Electric Vehicle Charging

Breadcrumb

Transportation Services operates an Electric Vehicle Charging program on the UC Riverside main campus. The department’s goal is to support the University of California’s commitment to reducing resource usage and greenhouse gas emissions and to support California’s overall goal to increase electric vehicle usage.

Program Principles:

  • Provide the infrastructure for Electric Vehicle users to obtain electricity for their vehicles while on campus to increase their available driving range in order to complete their commute. The program is not intended to provide Electric Vehicle users with the resources to become users’ primary method of charging their personal vehicle(s).  This method is commonly referred to as, Topping-Up.
    • Level II (240vac/30amp) charging stations are located in areas of the campus where electricity is readily available and accessible to current Electric Vehicle users and potential Electric Vehicle users visiting the campus.
    • Level I (120vac/20amp) charging infrastructure will be located in long-term parking areas of the campus, usually in conjunction with the construction of new parking facilities.

  • Provide on-campus residents with the option to fully charge their Electric Vehicles on campus in the Residential Electric Vehicle charging stalls.
    • Level I (120vac/20amp) charging infrastructure will be located in long-term residential parking areas on campus.

  • Maintain a rate structure that recovers the total cost of the program, including equipment, ongoing maintenance, and utility costs.

  • Support the adoption of electric vehicles and the smart vehicle selection processes.
