Donations for Citations Blood Drive

UCR Transportation Services and LifeStream Blood Bank host an annual “Donations for Citations” blood drive around Halloween-time. The event lets participants donate blood in exchange for credit toward a parking citation. Community members can also donate, with their credits applied to random citations through a raffle.

Big Springs 2 Parking Structure

The Big Springs 2 Parking Structure was built to meet the university’s increasing parking needs as campus development replaced older surface lots. The facility adds 1,079 spaces, while also creating a new gateway on a less-traveled side of campus to enhance its overall environment. Upon completion, it earned Parksmart Gold certification, the first project in the UC system to achieve this distinction.

Postcard Warning Program

UC Riverside Transportation Services’ Postcard Warning Program transforms traditional parking enforcement by replacing fines with friendly, themed postcards during academic breaks. Instead of receiving tickets, drivers get cheerful reminders—like Peter Cottontail in spring or Santa Claus in winter, turning a typically negative experience into a positive, community-building one.

Lot 13 Renovations

UC Riverside renovated Parking Lot 13, which was partly removed to make room for the new 1,079-space Big Springs Parking Structure 2. The goal was to turn the remaining 50-year-old lot into a modern, attractive parking area that supports the campus’s expanding science district and the nearby Botanic Gardens. The project included repaving the 208-space lot, adding new landscaping and lighting, and updating ADA parking.
