Soon, your license plate will be your parking permit.  Using Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR or LPR), parking enforcement officers will use advanced technology that scans the license plate of parked vehicles.  Once the plate is scanned and read by the software, the information is sent to a secured parking database and validated.

This new virtual permit system will streamline the parking permit process by eliminating the need to pick up or print permits, as well as the need to display physical permits.  It also removes the hassle of switching your permit between vehicles.  You can register up to three vehicles to link to your current “permit”, however only one vehicle may be parked on campus at any given time to avoid a citation.

Transportation Services is currently in testing stages of the process and should be in full implementation of LPR by Summer Quarter, 2021.  For more information on the process as well as detailed instructions on how to add or delete a vehicle to your permit, go to https://transportation.ucr.edu/lpr
