We are excited to be working with Faith McClure, our new California Climate Action Corps Fellow, to bring travel training events to our students. In December, Faith led a group of students on a bus trip to the Festival of Lights in downtown Riverside. Many of the students attending had never used public transportation before. Faith’s goal is to encourage public transit use by demonstrating how easy and accessible public transportation is for UCR students.

Another trip on the RTA bus is planned on January 18th to the Downtown Riverside Farmer’s Market. Interested students can meet up at the front of the Student Rec Center at 11am that Saturday morning and will walk together to the bus stop to take RTA Route 1 to the Farmer’s Market. For anyone that has not yet tried taking the bus, Faith will be there to show new riders where to catch the bus, how to understand the bus signs, and how to either use the GoMobile app or swipe your R’Card at the fare box.

Future trips using RTA buses and Metrolink trains will also be planned during winter and spring quarters. Keep an eye out on Transportation Services’ Instagram page @ucrtaps for details!
