Scooter Registration
UCR Transportation Services (TAPS) provides an internal scooter registry system and recommends that all scooters brought on campus are registered. Registration is provided at no cost to all faculty, staff, and enrolled students. It helps to identify your property in the event your scooter is lost, stolen, recovered, or impounded.
Registration can be done online by following the steps below. You can also register in person by taking your device to Transportation Services on weekdays beginning August 18, 2025 between the hours of 12-3pm.
Due to safety concerns, only UL-certified scooters certified by UL Solutions or a National Recognized Testing Laboratory are allowed inside the campus residence halls and apartments. UL-certification involves testing the scooter’s electrical components, including its battery, charger, and controller. UL-certification assures reduced risks of electrical malfunctions, which can lead to overheating, short circuits, and potential fires. Resident students must register their scooters with TAPS to get an approved housing registration sticker allowing the scooter inside campus housing.
Residents without a UL Certified scooter may still register their scooter for identification purposes; however, they will not receive a housing-approved sticker and will not be permitted to bring their scooter into campus housing buildings. Scooters without a housing-approved sticker must be parked outside, secured to designated racks or within bike cages.
How to register your scooter online:
1) Locate your scooter’s serial number.
For the registration to be effective, the serial number needs to be provided. Serial numbers are usually a combination of letters and numbers stamped directly on the scooter or printed on a sticker.
2) Locate the UL-certification sticker. This is required only for those living in campus housing.
3) Fill out our online registration form.
4) Once completed, you will receive a confirmation email. Those requiring a housing sticker will be directed to take their scooter to TAPS. Once verified, the housing sticker will be issued. For those that don’t require a sticker, the registration process is complete, and your scooter’s identification numbers will be stored with TAPS.
